Welcome to Andy and Sam's fundraising page. Follow us on www.Facebook.com/CherokeeChallengeFlight, www.g-atys.co.uk & via Twitter #CherokeeChallengeFlight as well!
In October this year, they’re flying their 1966 Piper Cherokee “Yankee Sierra” over 10,500 nautical miles from the UK to Andy’s native Australia.
This will be a great challenge for them both, and one which has been attempted by relatively few people in a single-engine piston-powered aircraft.
Why fly so far, so slowly?
Since arriving in the UK 24yrs ago, it has always been Andy’s ambition to fly home the slow way, by light aircraft. Now, with Sam as Copilot, they're ready to do it!
But more importantly, spare a thought for those who cannot even dream of such a thing as flying – those without enough water, shelter or food; those without the education and economic opportunity into which we have had the good fortune to be born.
So they not only want to fly halfway around the world in a light aircraft, but also help those who have been born into less privileged circumstances. So they are supporting Oxfam – the global charity that reaches millions.
